What is wound care?

Wound care includes medical services to support the full healing of open wounds from injuries or diseases and prevent complications like infections.

Vincit Medical Practice & Aesthetics offers comprehensive wound care services for adults and children. Yessica evaluates and treats many types of wounds, including nonhealing ulcers that result from diabetes.

When should I schedule a wound care appointment?

Schedule a wound care appointment at Vincit Medical Practice & Aesthetics if you have an open wound that won’t stop bleeding or doesn’t start healing within a few days.

Yessica cares for wounds like:

  • Cuts
  • Abrasions
  • Punctures
  • Lacerations
  • Pressure sores
  • Surgical wounds

If you have signs of an infection such as inflammation, pain, or fluid drainage from a wound, book a wound evaluation. Delaying treatment for an infected wound can spread the infection to other parts of your body.

Yessica also recommends that people with diabetes, cancer, or other conditions that can lower your immunity schedule a wound care appointment, even if the wound seems minor. Certain conditions can affect the wound healing process and put you at risk for additional complications.

What happens during a wound care consultation?

During your initial wound care consultation at Vincit Medical Practice & Aesthetics, Yessica reviews your overall health and medical history. She also asks questions about how you got the wound and what symptoms you have.

Yessica assesses the wound, checking for debris and signs of infection. She cleans the wound, removes damaged skin from the area, and can use stitches to close large wounds. Depending on your wound type, Yessica may apply topical medications to support wound healing. You might also need oral antibiotics to prevent infection.

Some wounds may be left open to heal. Larger or deeper wounds may require clean bandages to remove bacteria and debris. Yessica shows you how to change the bandage and care for your wound at home.

During follow-up visits, Yessica continues to monitor the progress of your wound healing. If your wound results from diabetes or other medical conditions, she can also recommend strategies you can use to ensure your condition is well-controlled to prevent additional wounds.
